GrapplerHQ analyzed all 76 matches from UFC BJJ 1 through UFC BJJ 9. There were 46 submissions, 28 decisions and two draws, producing an overall submission rate of 60.5%.
Key findings
- UFC BJJ 9 had the highest submission rate: eight finishes in nine matches (88.9%).
- The rear-naked choke was the most common finish with 12, followed by the heel hook with 10.
- Twenty-eight of the 46 submissions (60.9%) happened in the first round.
- Title matches ended in submission 65.0% of the time, compared with 58.9% for non-title matches.
- The submission rate fell from 72.0% across events 1–3 to 34.6% across events 4–6, then rebounded to 76.0% across events 7–9.
This is a living study based on the official results for the first nine numbered UFC BJJ cards. The dataset is current through June 4, 2026, and will be updated as new events take place.
What do the UFC BJJ statistics show?
| Measure | Result |
|---|---|
| Events analyzed | 9 |
| Total matches | 76 |
| Submissions | 46 (60.5%) |
| Decisions | 28 (36.8%) |
| Draws | 2 (2.6%) |
| Title matches | 20 |
| First-round submissions | 28 of 46 (60.9%) |
The headline number is useful, but the event-by-event pattern is more revealing. UFC BJJ did not move steadily toward more or fewer finishes. It went through a pronounced middle stretch dominated by decisions, followed by three submission-heavy events.
How did the submission rate change from UFC BJJ 1 to UFC BJJ 9?

| Event | Date | Matches | Submissions | Decisions | Draws | Submission rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| UFC BJJ 1 | Jun 25, 2025 | 8 | 7 | 1 | 0 | 87.5% |
| UFC BJJ 2 | Jul 31, 2025 | 8 | 6 | 2 | 0 | 75.0% |
| UFC BJJ 3 | Oct 2, 2025 | 9 | 5 | 4 | 0 | 55.6% |
| UFC BJJ 4 | Dec 11, 2025 | 10 | 4 | 6 | 0 | 40.0% |
| UFC BJJ 5 | Feb 12, 2026 | 8 | 4 | 4 | 0 | 50.0% |
| UFC BJJ 6 | Mar 12, 2026 | 8 | 1 | 6 | 1 | 12.5% |
| UFC BJJ 7 | Apr 2, 2026 | 8 | 5 | 3 | 0 | 62.5% |
| UFC BJJ 8 | May 21, 2026 | 8 | 6 | 1 | 1 | 75.0% |
| UFC BJJ 9 | Jun 4, 2026 | 9 | 8 | 1 | 0 | 88.9% |
UFC BJJ 1 opened with seven submissions in eight matches. The rate then declined across four of the next five cards and reached its low at UFC BJJ 6, where only one of eight matches ended by submission.
The pattern reversed sharply after that. UFC BJJ 7 produced five submissions, UFC BJJ 8 produced six, and UFC BJJ 9 produced eight. Taken as three-event blocks, the launch period finished at 72.0%, the middle period at 34.6%, and the most recent period at 76.0%.
That rebound is real in the results, but the sample remains small. It should not be treated as proof that the format itself changed athlete behavior. Matchmaking, athlete style, competitive level and ordinary event-to-event variance can all affect the result.
What are the most common UFC BJJ submissions?

The rear-naked choke leads the series with 12 finishes. Heel hooks are second with 10, and armbars are third with seven. Together, rear-naked chokes and heel hooks account for 22 of 46 submissions, or 47.8% of all finishes.
| Submission | Finishes | Share of submissions |
|---|---|---|
| Rear-naked choke | 12 | 26.1% |
| Heel hook | 10 | 21.7% |
| Armbar | 7 | 15.2% |
| Footlock | 3 | 6.5% |
| Kneebar | 3 | 6.5% |
| D'Arce choke | 2 | 4.3% |
| Kimura | 2 | 4.3% |
| Triangle choke | 2 | 4.3% |
| Americana | 1 | 2.2% |
| Aoki lock | 1 | 2.2% |
| Face crank | 1 | 2.2% |
| Mikey Lock | 1 | 2.2% |
| Triangle armbar | 1 | 2.2% |
Grouped into broader families, leg locks produced 18 finishes, chokes and cranks produced 17, and arm locks produced 11. The balance is notable: no single family accounts for even 40% of the submission total.
What round produces the most UFC BJJ submissions?
The first round produced 28 submissions, while rounds two and three produced nine each. That means 60.9% of all submissions happened in the opening five minutes.
| Round | Submissions | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Round 1 | 28 | 60.9% |
| Round 2 | 9 | 19.6% |
| Round 3 | 9 | 19.6% |
Round data is complete for all 46 submissions. Exact finish times are not: only 31 official result entries supplied a usable time. For that reason, this study does not estimate a median submission time.
Do UFC BJJ title matches finish more often?
Thirteen of 20 title matches ended by submission, a rate of 65.0%. Non-title matches produced 33 submissions in 56 matches, or 58.9%.
The title-match advantage is only 6.1 percentage points, and 20 title matches is a limited sample. The defensible conclusion is modest: title bouts have finished slightly more often so far, but the early data does not show a dramatic title-match effect.
Were the men’s and women’s division finish rates different?
Women’s divisions produced 12 submissions in 21 matches (57.1%). Men’s divisions produced 34 in 55 matches (61.8%). The 4.7-point difference is small relative to the sample, so the first nine cards do not support a strong claim that one group is more submission-oriented.
Who has the most UFC BJJ wins and submissions?
Andrew Tackett, Cassia Moura and Mikey Musumeci share the lead with four wins each. Bella Mir, Jalen Fonacier and Mason Fowler have three wins each.
Musumeci is the submission leader with four. Tackett and Fonacier are next with three apiece. The totals count numbered UFC BJJ cards through event 9 and do not include Road to the Title.
How do UFC BJJ rules shape the contest?
Under the official UFC BJJ rules, matches use three five-minute rounds with one minute of rest. Judges use a 10-point must system. Effective submission attempts that force meaningful defense are the highest-priority scoring criterion, followed by offensive actions such as takedowns, guard passes and sweeps, then duration of control.
The rules also list a guard pull without immediate action among the fouls. Those incentives may help explain why the promotion emphasizes active offense, but this dataset cannot isolate a rules effect from matchmaking or athlete selection. The results describe what happened; they do not prove why it happened.
How was this UFC BJJ dataset built?
- We collected the official result page for each numbered event from UFC BJJ 1 through UFC BJJ 9.
- Each match became one row with event, date, athletes, winner, outcome, method, round, available time, division and title status.
- Submission names were normalized for analysis while preserving meaningful distinctions such as heel hook, footlock, Aoki lock and Mikey Lock.
- Event totals were reconciled against the official card before aggregation.
- Percentages use all matches in the stated group, including draws in the denominator.
Scope note: UFC BJJ 1 is treated as an eight-match numbered card. The separate Road to the Title tournament bouts are excluded. Combining those preliminary tournament matches with UFC BJJ 1 produces a different total and is the main reason some secondary sources report more matches.
Corrections: If an official result is amended or a transcription error is found, GrapplerHQ will update the row and note the change on this page.
